- NOTE: MacUpdate will "annoy" you more and more as time
- goes on if you do not pay. Every 30 days, or 30 uses, MacUpdate
- will increment the display time of the "annoy" window by one
- second, and decrease the time between displays by 1 minute.
- Both conditions of 30 days and 30 uses must be satisfied for
- the annoyance level to change. For example, if you use MacUpdate
- only 6 times in 100 days, since 6 < 30, it won't annoy you any more
- than when MacUpdate was a "fresh" copy, even though 100 > 30.
- Similarly, if you use MacUpdate 120 times in 15 days, since
- 15 < 30, the annoyance level will not be increased, even though
- 120 > 30. Basically, if gives you, the user, the best deal it can
- by comparing these two numbers. The annoyance level is only
- based on the smaller of the two numbers.
-
- If you need detailed technical support or have a feature request,
- but have not paid, I may be reluctant to pursue your request(s).
- Please don't "dangle a carrot in front of my nose" by promising
- to pay if and only if I would just implement some feature or
- another. The best way to motivate me to implement a new feature
- is to include the feature request on your registration form with
- your shareware payment.
-
- Finally, if you are bound and determined not to pay for this
- software, but you use it very often and do not want the annoyance
- window to interfere, just trash the MacUpdate 4.0 ß Preferences
- file, located in the Preferences Folder in your System Folder. Note
- you'll have to trash this file every 90 days or so.
-
- By the way, if this describes you (i.e., you use the software very
- often, but do not want to pay), you are violating the "shareware
- ethic", and reducing the chance that newer versions of MacUpdate
- will be produced. If you like MacUpdate and use MacUpdate,
- please pay for MacUpdate.
